About Panchak
Panchak occurs every lunar month and is traditionally divided into five types based on the weekday it begins — each associated with different guidance in folk tradition (e.g. Agni Panchak on Tuesday, Chor Panchak on Saturday). Many people avoid starting certain activities — like roofing a house or purchasing furniture — during this period, though customs vary by region and family.
Note: different Panchang traditions define the exact start point slightly differently. We use the commonly-cited convention of the 3rd pada (quarter) of Dhanishta Nakshatra through the end of Revati Nakshatra.
